Dropped $400 on a Kirby Morgan knockoff hood and it fogged up 20 minutes into a 60 foot job in Morgan City
The purge valve leaked from day one and I had to breathe off my backup the whole dive, so has anyone found a sub $500 hood that actually holds a seal or am I just saving for the real thing?

That purge valve issue is the whole ballgame right there, because a hood that leaks air makes the seal pointless no matter how good the skirt fits. In my experience the cheap knockoffs cut corners on the valve and the glue around it, so you end up fighting two problems at once instead of one. Your mileage may vary, but saving for a real one might actually cost less than burning through two or three fakes.
