Dive ops in the Gulf last month, noticed everyone skipping the surface marker buoy check

Was working a job near Galveston and saw 3 different guys run their SMBs without testing the inflator. One had a leak that took 2 tries to get up. I always give mine a quick blast before I even get suited up. Costs 10 seconds. Anyone else seen this getting sloppy on their crews, or am I just old school about it?

Same pattern everywhere. People skip the small checks until something fails.
