Crossed 1,000 hours on my primary surface supply unit this morning
The logbook entry surprised me because I've only had the rig for 18 months. It made me think about how much more confident I feel with the controls now versus when I first got it. Anyone else hit a big hour mark on a piece of gear and notice a real shift in their comfort level?

Wow, that's a serious amount of time logged! Hitting a thousand hours is when the gear just becomes part of you, you stop thinking about the buttons and just do the work. I felt the same way after my first big milestone, everything from trim to deco just felt automatic. It's cool to look back and see how far you've come from being nervous about every little switch.

Yeah, that muscle memory thing is real. I was reading an interview with a pilot once, and they said the exact same thing about hitting a certain flight hour mark. Your brain just offloads the basic stuff so you can focus on the bigger picture. It's wild how practice rewires you. You don't realize it's happening until you look back and see how much mental space you've freed up.

My uncle has been flying small planes for like 15 years and he still double checks his landing gear switch like three times before touching down. I dunno, I think people hype up these hour milestones WAY too much. A thousand hours is a LOT but I've seen plenty of folks with way more experience than that still mess up simple stuff because they got too comfortable. Maybe it's less about brain rewiring and more about just getting used to the routine.
