Spent $60 on a comic binding job at a shop in Portland and it came back with my ASM #300 sliced in half
I had about 40 single issues of Amazing Spider-Man from the late 80s sitting in a long box for years, and I finally decided to get them bound into a hardcover volume. The shop quoted me $60, told me turnaround was 3 weeks, and said they do this all the time for collectors. Got the book back 5 weeks later and the first thing I noticed was that the spine glue had bled through onto the cover of issue 300, which is my most valuable copy. Then I flipped through it and saw they had trimmed the pages so aggressively that about a quarter inch of art was gone on every page. I called the shop and the guy said trimming is standard for binding and I should have known that going in. Has anyone here ever had a binding job go bad, and is there a way to check a shop's work before you hand over your books?
