Our local comic shop's new book club is a huge hit

I never expected so many folks around here to show up for comic book chats every week.

Where were all these "comic fans" hiding before the club started? Now we've got guys who couldn't tell you the first thing about Green Lantern's power ring suddenly having hot takes on every single issue. I saw a guy last week get into a full-on debate about Batman's rogues gallery, and I'm pretty sure he just watched the movies.

Honestly, I used to feel the same way when the movies brought in a bunch of new people... it really irked me. But I tried something different last year and just started asking those guys what they liked about the characters from the films. Turns out a lot of them were curious about the comics but felt kinda lost... so I'd point out a few good issues to start with. Now a couple of them text me about new releases and actually buy books. It's not perfect, but at least they're trying to learn instead of just arguing... and the shop gets more business which is nice for everyone.
