My longbox lid cracked right before a con, disaster

I was packing for the weekend show in Portland and the plastic hinge on my old longbox just snapped when I lifted it, comics spilled everywhere in the hallway. That box held my first 50 issues of X-Men, some with bags and boards but a few loose ones got corner dings on the carpet. I ended up grabbing a cheap cardboard banker's box from the office supply store down the street and transferring everything that night, took about 2 hours. Has anyone else had a storage solution fail at the worst possible time, or am I just cursed with flimsy plastic?

Ugh, that's brutal! I had a shortbox bottom give out right before a move once, but at least it wasnt a con weekend. Still, loose books hitting carpet is a special kind of heartbreak, especially with those old X-Men issues. Cardboard banker boxes are honestly fine for a quick fix, even if they look sad. Hope your comics survived the show without worse damage!

The bag and board debate always felt overblown to me, but seeing how those loose books slid around at that con changed my mind completely. A little extra protection is way cheaper than replacing a key issue, even if it feels annoying to re-bag everything. Now I tape the bottoms of every shortbox and use those plastic covers on anything worth over twenty bucks, no exceptions.
