My buddy swore I was crazy for buying a 50 dollar longbox at a garage sale
He told me last summer that I was throwing money away on plastic when I could just stack issues in a cardboard box. Fast forward 8 months and I moved apartments in Chicago, had to haul those flimsy boxes three times, and now half of them have crushed corners. That longbox is the only thing that kept my Amazing Spider-Man 300 from getting bent. Any other collectors run into this storage issue or am I just clumsy?

Longboxes are a game changer once you actually need to move your collection. Those cardboard short boxes are fine for sitting in a closet but they absolutely fall apart the second you have to stack them in a moving truck. Chicago apartments especially with all those stairs and narrow hallways will wreck paper boxes in one trip. Your buddy probably never had to haul his books more than once so he doesn't get it. The plastic is worth it for the peace of mind alone, not to mention keeping your keys clean. You made the right call for sure.

Man, moving those cardboard short boxes is like trying to haul a pile of wet napkins across town. I helped a friend move his collection once and half the boxes split open right on the stairs of his walkup. Keys and floppies went everywhere. Plastic longboxes might cost more upfront but you don't have to tape the bottom back on every time you look at them. Your buddy probably still uses a milk crate and calls it a day. You saved yourself a headache and a half.
