I was reading comics wrong for like 15 years and didn't even know it

I always just read the main story and skipped all the letters pages and editor's notes in the back. Then I picked up a copy of 'The Amazing Spider-Man' #252 from a shop in Austin and read the whole thing. The editor's note about the black suit's first appearance totally changed how I saw the whole issue. Has anyone else had a moment where a small detail in a comic changed the whole story for them?

Man, my buddy totally missed the hidden messages in 'Watchmen' for a decade.

Found out I'd been ignoring the little numbers in the corner of panels for years. Turns out they're not just for show, they actually tell you the reading order. Felt like a total genius when I finally connected a fight scene correctly.
