Hot take: The comic shop in my town went from empty to packed after they added a coffee bar

I walked into Main Street Comics last week and the place was full of people, maybe 20 of them just hanging out. Six months ago it was just the owner and maybe one other guy. The owner told me he put in a small coffee machine and some chairs, and now people come to read books and talk. Has anyone else seen a shop change like this just from adding something simple?

Yeah, that "social space" thing is key. My local record store put in a couple old couches and a cheap turntable for listening. Now people just hang out and talk music, buys way more stuff.

Sounds like they added a social space, not coffee.

dude, YES, absolutely. my local game shop did the same thing, turned the back half into just a couple of beat up tables and a little snack bar with a toaster and a coffee maker. place went from a ghost town to a full on hangout spot every friday night. people bring their own dice and just sit for hours playing random board games they didn't buy. i'm pretty sure the owner makes more off the hot dogs and candy bars than he does on the magic cards now. it's wild how just giving people a spot to sit and be together changes the whole vibe of a store.
