Found my comic book people at a tiny con in Boise

I went to a small convention in Boise last year, feeling pretty out of place. I was just browsing when a guy at a local artist's table pointed at my old X-Men shirt and started talking about the 90s cartoon. We ended up chatting with a whole group for over an hour about obscure storylines. It made me realize I didn't have to know everything to belong, I just had to show up. Anyone else have a moment like that where you finally felt like part of the fan community?

Yeah, wearing an old band tee did that for me once.

Which band tee was it? I had a similar thing happen with a faded Pixies shirt from high school. Some guy at the grocery store just started talking about "Doolittle" out of nowhere. It was cool but also kind of weird. What did the person who noticed your shirt say?

That faded Pixies shirt story is a classic. Mine was an old Sonic Youth "Goo" tee, the one with the cartoon kiss. A woman at the post office just pointed and said, "Sister, you know you're right." We ended up talking about seeing them on the '92 tour. It's those little moments that make wearing the shirt worth it. Emma_burns96 gets it, it's like a secret handshake for people who were there.
