Caught a guy at Boston Comic Con pricing his own beat-up X-Men #1 at $800
I was browsing tables at Boston Comic Con last spring, not really looking for anything specific. This dude next to me pulls out a copy of X-Men #1 from 1963 but it's all creased and has a big chunk missing from the back cover. He slaps a $800 sticker on it and I almost laughed out loud. I checked my phone and saw a clean copy sold on eBay the week before for $250. I told him straight up his price was crazy and showed him the sold listing. He got all defensive saying it's a key issue and rare. I walked away but it stuck with me how some fans just guess at prices instead of doing 5 minutes of research. Now I always check sold comps before I buy or sell anything at shows. Anyone else run into sellers with wildly off prices at conventions?

That $800 sticker is insane for a beat up copy. I've seen people at shows ask way over market just hoping a sucker walks by, it's frustrating. Good on you for pulling up the sold listing on the spot.
