Warning: Ditching college for a trade apprenticeship actually worked better than my degree plan

I dropped out of community college in Cleveland after two semesters because I was tired of racking up debt for classes that didn't stick. My uncle owns a small HVAC company and offered me a spot, so I took it figuring I'd give it a year. Three years later I'm making $28 an hour and have zero student loans, while my friends who stayed are fighting for internships. Has anyone else found a specific trade route that beat the classroom grind?

Man I gotta chime in with my buddy's story. He went to a welding school in Pittsburgh for 6 months and now he's working on pipeline repairs in the middle of nowhere. Last I heard he was pulling down like $35 an hour but he also lived out of a camper for two years. He says the money is unreal but the loneliness gets to him sometimes. Not gonna lie though it sounds way better than sitting in a lecture hall.
