Walked into a community college art class 3 years after dropping out and saw my old professor still using the same broken stool I warned him about.

That stool wobbled so bad during my first semester that I nearly spilled turpentine on a final project, and when I asked him last week why he never fixed it he said he likes the character it adds to his critiques - has anyone else gone back to campus and noticed something frozen in time like that?

Wait, did you ever figure out if he was attached to the wobble or just too lazy to grab a new one? I used to roll my eyes at stuff like that, thinking it was just stubbornness or cheapness. But honestly, after spending enough time around old tools and creaky ladders, I kinda get it now. Sometimes a bit of wear and tear tells a story, or just becomes part of the rhythm of the work.

That stool is a lawsuit waiting to happen. Some people just get weirdly attached to their broken junk.
