My car threw a rod on the highway outside Dallas last Friday

Had to dump $1,200 into a junkyard engine swap just to get back to work, and I'm still paying off the semester I dropped from last spring. Anyone else get hit with a surprise bill that set back their whole comeback plan?

That thrown rod story hits way too close to home. I had to drop $900 on a transmission rebuild last fall right after I got my credit card paid down from the summer. Felt like every step forward I took, something big and expensive just yanked me right back.

@emma_mitchell $900 on a transmission is brutal, but at least it wasn't my 2004 Camry deciding to do its own oil change all over the driveway. I'm pretty sure my car's check engine light is just a personality trait at this point, reminding me who's really in charge of my bank account. The universe has a real sense of humor about financial stability, doesn't it?
