I dropped $8,000 on a 'guaranteed' tech certification course after leaving school and it was a total scam.

The so-called job placement program they promised just sent me a list of public LinkedIn postings anyone could find, and now I'm stuck working a retail gig in Phoenix to pay off the debt, so has anyone found a legit way to get certified without getting ripped off?

Wait, they charged you eight grand just to email you a link to LinkedIn? That's insane, how is that even legal? I'd be looking into a chargeback or something with my bank if I were you, that's straight up fraud. For real, check out the free resources like the other guy said, you can study for most of these tests for the cost of a book or just your time. Spending that much on a course is wild when the actual exam voucher is only a few hundred bucks.

My buddy in Austin got his AWS cert through a freeCodeCamp study group and landed a remote job.

Remote job in Austin" sounds like a great way to avoid Austin traffic, I'll give him that.
