I ate gas station food for every meal my last semester, now I meal prep on Sundays and I'm saving $340 a month
When I dropped out of community college in 2019 I was living on $2 roller dogs and energy drinks from the Circle K near my apartment. I hit a point where I was spending about $470 a month on fast food and gas station snacks because I told myself I was too busy working two jobs to cook. My roommate at the time said something that stuck with me, he asked if I was really that busy or just that lazy, and honestly he was right. Now I spend about $130 a month on groceries and cook everything on Sunday afternoons in big batches. I got a cheap rice cooker and a used slow cooker from a thrift store in Fresno and those two things do 80% of my meals. The funny part is I have less free time now than I did back then, I picked up a third job doing delivery, but I still make it work. Has anyone else noticed that the broke version of you makes way dumber money choices than the slightly less broke version?
