Had to choose between finishing my degree or taking a warehouse job paying $28 an hour
I picked the job in Houston six months ago and now I'm training to be a supervisor while my friends are still stuck in debt, has anyone else walked away from a diploma for a blue collar gig that actually paid off?

Man that $28 an hour starting is solid, most folks coming out of college are lucky to get half that. Got a buddy who did the same thing at a refinery in Beaumont, been there three years now and he's clearing six figures with overtime. Make sure you push for that supervisor training hard, it's the real key to moving up without the diploma. The debt thing is a trap, you made the right call.

Actually the overtime thing varies a lot by plant. My neighbor worked at a refinery in Baton Rouge and said the first year they capped overtime at 10 hours a week to keep costs down. Your buddy might be at a busy spot but that's not the norm everywhere. The supervisor training is good advice though, that's how you skip the degree requirement. Also worth noting those $28 starting jobs sometimes require a two year commitment or they dock your pay after training. Just saying, check the fine print before signing anything.
