Finally got my first paid graphic design job 18 months after dropping out of art school

I was in a drawing class sophomore year and the professor told me my perspective was all wrong. She kept saying I was trying too hard to make things look perfect instead of just seeing what was actually there. Took me three tries on one still life of a coffee cup before I threw my pencil down and walked out. That was the day I realized I didn't want to spend four years and $40k learning to draw better, I wanted to actually make stuff people would pay for. Started watching free tutorials online that night and just kept at it. This job is just a small local bakery menu redesign but they paid me $300. Has anyone else had that moment where a teacher or boss pointed out something you were blind to?

That thing about trying to make it perfect instead of seeing what's actually there... that's real, man. You can waste years chasing "correct" when you could be chasing "done.

Yeah, totally. I heard someone say once that "done is better than perfect" and it's stuck with me ever since, @harper_smith. It's wild how much easier things get once you let that go, you know?
