Dropped out 3 semesters in, then my landlord in Toledo raised rent $250 and I had no degree to fall back on
I left community college after 3 semesters back in 2019. Got a job at a warehouse making $14 an hour. Not bad for no degree, I figured. Then 6 weeks ago my landlord in Toledo raised the rent from $700 to $950 with 30 days notice. I tried to get a better job but every posting that paid over $18 wanted a degree or 5 years experience. So I'm stuck paying more on the same check. I picked up weekend shifts at a second warehouse just to cover the gap. Nobody warns you that dropping out means your rent can outrun you way faster than your pay can. How do you all deal with the money side when the rent goes up but the jobs you can get don't?
Honestly though, plenty of people without degrees make good money if they go into trades or move for work, so blaming the dropout is kinda easy. Rent goes up on everyone, degree or not, my cousin has a bachelor's and still got priced out of her place last year. The real issue is you stayed in a cheap market and didn't jump when you had the chance, not the 3 semesters.
