A professor's note on my essay made me rethink everything

Back in 2019, I was failing English 102 and nearly dropped out. The prof wrote 'you hide behind big words' on my midterm, and it stung because she was right. I started writing like I talk, short and direct, and my grades jumped from a D to a B by finals. Still didn't finish college, but that lesson stuck with me in every job since. Anyone else get criticism that actually turned things around for them?
