Warning: I dropped $80 on a pour-over setup and it's gathering dust
I bought a Chemex and a fancy gooseneck kettle back in March because everyone said it makes the best coffee. After three weeks of fiddling with grind sizes and pouring times, I went back to my $25 Mr. Coffee drip machine. The Chemex makes a cleaner cup I guess, but it takes like 7 minutes and I'm half asleep. Now the kettle just sits there mocking me every morning. Has anyone else spent money on a coffee gadget that turned out to be more hassle than it's worth?

it takes like 7 minutes and I'm half asleep" - that's the real kicker right there. But honestly, did you actually enjoy the coffee more when you got the pour-over right? I only ask because I went through the same thing with an Aeropress. Everyone swore it was amazing but I just kept thinking "this is good coffee but not 5 minutes of work better than my drip machine." Maybe pour over is just for people who wake up two hours early and actually find the process relaxing. What were you chasing when you bought it?

Lol honestly I think people just like the ritual more than the actual coffee difference. Unless you're using some fancy single origin beans I doubt your average person could tell the difference in a blind taste test.
