PSA: My local roaster in Austin ran out of my usual beans for a whole month
It was a rough few weeks. I had been getting this specific Ethiopian Yirgacheffe from a small roaster near my place for over a year. Then, their importer had a shipping delay. I tried three other local spots, but nothing tasted right. One place's version was way too sour, another was just flat. I even bought a bag from a grocery store, which was a huge mistake. I finally got the text that my beans were back in stock yesterday. That first cup this morning was perfect. Has anyone else had a go-to coffee disappear and had to scramble to find a decent replacement?

Honestly this sounds like a self made problem. Getting that attached to one specific bean from one roaster is just setting yourself up for disappointment. Coffee is a farm product, shortages happen. The whole point of having local spots is to try new things, not treat them like a vending machine for your exact fix. That grocery store bag probably wasn't even that bad, you just went into it expecting it to be worse. Branching out is good, it keeps your palate from getting lazy.

Wait are you seriously calling people lazy for liking one coffee? That's wild lol. I get what you're saying about trying new stuff but sometimes you just find your favorite. It's not about being picky, it's about knowing what you enjoy. Telling someone their taste is wrong just because they're bummed their usual is gone feels kinda harsh. Let people like what they like without making it a whole thing about their palate.
