My local library's cafe has a sign that says 'coffee is for reading' and it made me think

I stopped at the new branch downtown yesterday and saw they only serve a basic medium roast, no pour-over or single origin options at all. The barista told me their whole idea is that the coffee is just a simple tool to help you focus on the books, not the drink itself. Does anyone else have a spot like this that completely ignores the craft side of things?

But isn't the craft of a good cup part of the whole quiet, focused experience?

You're right that the craft is part of it. But for me, the quiet focus is in the drinking, not the making. The ritual of preparing it can just be noise before the main event. That first silent sip is the real point.

Yeah, that makes total sense. Sometimes you just want the quiet part without all the steps before it. The whole point is that moment when you finally stop and just taste it, right? Getting too caught up in the process can ruin the peace you're after.
