My dad said my pour-over setup looked like a science project
We were at my place last weekend and he watched me weigh beans, check water temp, and time the bloom. He just shook his head and said, 'You know, son, my old percolator just gets plugged in.' It made me stop and realize I might have lost the plot a bit, chasing numbers over just enjoying a cup. How do you all balance the hobbyist side of coffee with the simple act of drinking it?

Honestly we optimize the joy out of everything now, even breakfast.

Man, my wife said the same thing about my sourdough starter. It's just flour and water, but I've got charts.

Tell your dad his percolator makes battery acid and you're doing the lord's work. Look, the numbers are just a tool to get a good, repeatable cup. Once you dial it in, stop staring at the timer and just enjoy the routine. The point is the coffee in your mug, not the data on your phone. I got lost in that for a while too, and my best cups now are when I'm not overthinking it.
