I was wrong about the cheap grinder from that garage sale

Picked up a basic hand grinder for $5 last month, thinking it would be junk for my morning brew. Ground some beans for a french press, expecting it to be uneven and slow. The coffee came out smoother than my old electric one, with way less bitter taste. Now I get why people talk about grind consistency so much. Anyone have tips for keeping a manual grinder from wearing out?

Clean it after every use to keep those burrs sharp for years.

Plus if you let old coffee oils build up it can actually make your next cup taste bitter and weird. I learned that the hard way when I thought a quick rinse was good enough. A little brush and a dry wipe after each use really does make a difference.
