Friend told me my pour-over technique was 'aggressive' and I finally get it

I was slamming the water in there like a fire hose and getting bitter cups. Slow, gentle circles changed my morning coffee completely. Anybody else get called out for rushing their brew?

Ugh, I feel this so hard. "Slamming the water in there like a fire hose" is exactly what I used to do too, I just didn't know it was a problem. My buddy watched me pour one morning and was like "dude, are you trying to drown those beans?" and I was so defensive at first. It's wild how just slowing down and doing those gentle circles takes the bitterness out completely, now I actually look forward to the quiet part of the morning.

Jumped right in and started measuring everything after my buddy called me out. Turns out my "aggressive" pour was also wildly inconsistent, like sometimes 30 seconds sometimes 2 minutes. @ward.fiona nailed it about being defensive at first, I was the same way until I actually timed my pours and saw the difference. Just a cheap scale and a gooseneck kettle (nothing fancy) made it click for me, the bitterness was from me just jamming hot water in there at random speeds. Now I treat it more like I'm petting a cat than wrestling an alligator, you know?
