Found out my French press makes way better coffee than my drip machine ever did
I used my $30 Mr. Coffee drip machine for like 2 years and thought it was fine. Then my buddy Dave brought over his French press last week and made a cup that tasted like actual berries and chocolate. I tried it myself the next morning with the same beans and boom, totally different drink. Has anyone else had a cheap gear swap totally change their morning routine like that?

Read that the mesh filters let more oils through for richer flavor.

Wait, does that mean mesh actually changes the flavor profile compared to paper? I want to know because I tried a metal filter once and my coffee tasted heavy and almost gritty, but maybe I just used the wrong grind size? Also @willow672 you mentioned french press, do you think the oils from mesh filters add the same kind of body you get from a press, or is it different? I brew with a V60 at home and I'm trying to figure out if switching to mesh would make my morning cup feel richer without the sediment.
