Appreciation post: that Wednesday last month when every shot I pulled looked like liquid gold

The machine was perfectly dialed in at 20 grams in and 40 out in 28 seconds with a local roast from that single origin Colombian beans at Common Grounds, has anyone else had one of those magical mornings where everything just clicks?

Used to roll my eyes at posts like this tbh, thought it was just people flexing their gear. But last week my usual morning routine gave me this pull that looked like honey dripping out of the portafilter and I literally stood there staring at it for a solid 10 seconds lol. That exact 20 in 40 out in 28 seconds is basically impossible to hit every time so when it happens it really does feel kinda magical even if it's just coffee.

Hold on, are we really putting that much weight on one lucky Wednesday? I mean, it's coffee, not landing a man on Mars. I've had mornings like that too, where the timings and ratios just happen to line up, but it's usually just the machine being nice to me before it acts up again the next day. That whole 20 grams in and 40 out in exactly 28 seconds sounds like a flex from someone who owns a scale and a stopwatch, not a normal person making breakfast. And calling it "liquid gold" feels a bit much, like you've never had a bad cup from that same bag of beans the day before. It's a good shot, sure, but let's not pretend it's a spiritual experience worthy of a whole post.

Right, thank you. Finally someone said it. I had the exact same thing happen last Tuesday and I almost posted about it too but then I remembered the disaster from three days before that tasted like burnt tires. My machine is a total liar, it gives you one good shot just to mess with your head and then goes back to sputtering and channeling the next morning. Calling it "liquid gold" is also super funny to me because that same "gold" turned into a sour mess the other week when I didn't preheat the cup. It's just a good morning brew, not a miracle.
