Am I the only one who thinks preheating your mug actually matters more than the beans?
Last month I was at my buddy Dan's place in Boise and he pulled out this $22 bag of single origin beans he was so proud of, weighed everything on a scale, timed the pour to the second. Then he poured it into a cold ceramic mug straight from the cabinet. By the time I got halfway down the cup it tasted flat and thin, like watered down tea. I didn't say anything but I kept thinking about it. I started filling my mugs with hot tap water while I grind and the same beans I've been buying at the grocery for $11 taste way sweeter and fuller now from start to finish. Dan texted me two weeks back asking why his coffee went bland and I told him about the mug trick and he laughed at me. Nobody talks about this part. The cup pulls heat out of the coffee fast and the last third is where you really notice it. So what's your go to, does anyone here preheat, and if so do you use hot water or just run it under the tap for a bit?
