Debate: How long should a simple CSS layout actually take?

I spent 4 hours last weekend trying to center a div with flexbox. It worked on my laptop but broke on my phone. Should I have googled it sooner or is it normal to bang your head against the wall for that long when you're starting out?

Did you start with a CSS reset? That one change saved me from most of those mobile headaches.

Yeah, Mayer reset fixed most of my weird mobile spacing issues.
