We were down 20-19 at the Y on Mockingbird last Tuesday, he drove baseline, I barely grazed his arm, and he stopped mid layup and said 'that's on me, your ball' instead of taking the free throw that would've won it, and we ended up losing in overtime, so tell me honestly, was that a stand up move or did he just hand away the one moment we'd been grinding for all night?
That line about him stopping mid layup and calling it on himself really got me because my cousin did the exact same thing at a court in Garland last summer. We were down by one, he got bumped going up, ref didn't even call it, and he just hands the ball back saying it wasn't a foul. We lost by two and I sat in my car for ten minutes just staring at the wheel. Still bugs me when I think about it. Part of me respects it but the other part is like dude, we play here every week, nobody remembers the score by Thursday.
