The extra 2 minutes that turned a 4th down try into a win
Youth football last Saturday in Akron, our defense was gassed and the other team lined up for a 4th and 2 on our 15. Instead of yelling at the kids, I called our one time out and made the whole sideline kneel down, count to 15, and drink water. One assistant thought it was a waste, but we walked out with fresh legs, stuffed the run, and drove 85 yards for the winning score with 40 seconds left. Is there a moment where slowing down the pace worked better than pushing harder, or is stopping momentum usually a crumble move? Anyone else use a timeout just for a breath and seen it change a game?
