That halftime pep talk from a stranger in Boise flipped my whole coaching style
Last fall I was coaching my daughter's rec soccer team and we were down 3-1 at the break, so I gave my usual 'hustle more' speech, but this older guy watching from the fence pulled me aside and said 'you keep telling them to win, not how to win.' He pointed out that every kid on the field was confused about their assignment on corner kicks, so I switched to drawing out one simple play on a napkin instead of yelling, and we scored twice in the second half. Has anyone else had a random spectator or parent give advice that actually worked better than your own plan?

That napkin move is genius, kids just need one clear job instead of five yelled at them.
