That $40 moisture meter saved me from a $2,000 flooring disaster
I was about to install bamboo flooring in my basement last month but the moisture reading on the slab was 18% when it should be under 12%. The guy at the hardware store kept telling me I was overthinking it but I held off and ran a dehumidifier for 3 days straight. Has anyone else caught a hidden moisture problem before it ruined their whole project?

Man the "guy at the hardware store kept telling me I was overthinking it" part really gets me. I had almost the exact same thing happen with laminate flooring in my basement last year. My meter was reading 16% and the guy at the big box store was like "just lay it down, it'll be fine." I ignored him, ran a dehumidifier for a whole week, and it dropped to 10%. If I had listened to him I would have been ripping up brand new floors in six months when all that moisture got trapped. That little meter is the best forty bucks I ever spent, totally worth it.

Do you really think that extra 6% would have caused that much trouble though? Seems like you might be overthinking it just as much as the guy at the hardware store warned.
