Had to choose between packing my own lunch or buying it for a week during a 3-day work trip to Denver
I had this big work meeting last month and I had two choices: prep sandwiches and snacks Sunday night to save money, or just hit up the places near the hotel. I figured it's just 3 days, how bad could eating out be? Day one I spent $18 on a mediocre wrap and a soda. Day two was $22 at a deli. Day three I caved and got a breakfast burrito for $12 plus lunch. Total was over $50 for food I didn't even enjoy. And I felt sluggish during the presentations too. My coworker brought a cooler with sandwiches and apples and looked way more awake. Anyone else get tricked by convenience on a short trip?

Got stuck in this trap myself a few years back on a trip to Austin. Packed nothing but a granola bar for a 4 day conference and ended up spending close to $80 on fast food and gas station snacks that left me feeling awful. The real kicker was the third day when I had to eat a dry chicken sandwich from a airport hotel vending machine because nothing else was open. My buddy showed up with a full cooler of homemade meals and even had a little bag of cut up veggies. He didn't even look tired during the afternoon sessions while I was nodding off. Now I always bring at least a thermos of soup and some fruit on any trip longer than a day.
