Trying to get a home energy audit in my town took way longer than I thought

I called the city office in March to ask about their free program, and they said it would be 2 weeks. The first company they sent was booked out for a month, and then they canceled. I finally got someone to come out in late June, so the whole thing took almost 4 months. Has anyone else had to wait this long for a simple efficiency check?

You're definitely not alone, my wait was almost as long. The company my town uses had a huge backlog and kept rescheduling. It felt like a part-time job just getting it set up.

Remember my buddy's fiber install? They gave him a four-hour window and showed up three days later...

And here's the part nobody talks about - those installers are getting paid by the job, not by the hour. So if they're running late or skipping appointments, it's because they're trying to cram in as many installs as possible in one day to make decent money. I had a guy show up at 9pm once, clearly exhausted, and he practically begged me not to complain because he'd lose his bonus if the company heard about it. The whole system is set up to screw both the customer and the worker, and the companies just pocket the difference.
