The before and after on my street after the city planted 50 trees
I live on Elm Street in Portland, and three summers ago the city put in 50 new maple trees along the sidewalk. Back then, our block was a heat trap, hitting 95 degrees on the asphalt by noon. Now those trees shade nearly every house, and we measured a 10 degree drop on our porch thermometer this July. Has anyone else noticed a real difference from local tree planting projects?

Those maples wouldn't drop it that much, maybe 5 degrees tops.

Whoa, a buddy of mine planted a row of those and his AC bill barely budged.
