The alley behind my apartment in Chicago went from trash pile to tiny garden in 6 months

I mean, I just started throwing coffee grounds and veggie scraps out there instead of the bin, and some neighbor actually put in raised beds. Now we have tomatoes growing where there used to be broken glass. Has anyone else seen a random spot turn green like that?

Coffee grounds are basically rocket fuel for tomatoes, I swear every plant in my backyard went nuts after I started dumping them out there. Now you two just need someone to toss in a few basil plants and you'll have a full-on pizza garden going.

I started mixing coffee grounds into my compost bin last spring and @alice121 is right, my tomato plants went from weak to absolutely crazy, like 6 feet tall with fruit everywhere. One of my neighbors even asked if I was secretly feeding them steroids or something. I also toss in crushed eggshells for calcium and banana peels for potassium, and the whole setup basically runs itself. Have you ever tried grinding up dried eggshells before adding them to the soil?
