Saw a heat wave wreck a local farm market in Phoenix
Was at the downtown Phoenix farmers market last July. Temps hit 115. Saw half the produce at one stall wilt and get tossed before noon. The farmer said he lost about $300 worth of greens that morning. Made me realize how climate hits food right at home. Anyone know good ways to help local growers handle extreme heat?

My buddy runs a small farm stand up north. He started using these cheap shade cloths from the garden store last summer, said it made a huge difference for his lettuce.

Why cheap cloths though?

Yeah, shade cloth really is a lifesaver... we did the same thing for our little backyard garden after that heatwave hit. Tossed a cheap 40% shade cloth over the lettuce and kale, and they actually made it through the worst of it without bolting.
