PSA: I switched my commute from driving to biking and saved $280 in 2 months
I started biking to work in Denver two months ago after my car broke down and I did the math on gas and parking. What really surprised me was how much better I felt, not just physically but mentally too, since I wasn't sitting in traffic getting annoyed every morning. My grocery runs are the only thing I still drive for, but even that is once a week now. Has anyone else made a similar switch and found ways to handle the rainy days or big errands?
My buddy Dave in Portland did the bike commute thing for a whole year and his trick for rain was just keeping a full change of clothes at the office, socks and shoes included. He said showing up soaked was fine once he stopped caring, but wet socks were the one thing that broke him. For big stuff he just rented a truck from Home Depot for like 20 bucks when he really needed it.
