Picked an electric lawn mower over gas and my neighbor actually apologized for his noise

I moved into a new place in Portland last spring with a tiny lawn, maybe 400 square feet. I had to choose between a cheap gas mower from the pawn shop or spend $350 on a corded electric one. I went electric because I kept reading about how much air pollution gas mowers kick out, like apparently running one for an hour equals driving a car 100 miles. First time I used it, my neighbor across the fence yelled over and said he was sorry for waking me up every Saturday with his old Toro. The cord can be annoying to drag around and I have to swap outlets, but I don't smell like gas and it starts every single time. Plus my electric bill went up maybe a dollar a month to run it. Has anyone else switched mowers and noticed their neighbors being weird about it?

parkerk56 made me realize my quiet mower is just my excuse to spy on the neighbors now.

Did you ever find random people just stopping to chat about lawn stuff? I had this old guy walk by while I was trimming with my electric weed whacker and he spent 10 minutes telling me about his grandfather's push reel mower from the 1940s. I'm just trying to get the job done and now I know more about some dude's family history than my own. The quiet does make the neighborhood feel different though, like you can actually hear birds instead of engines.
