My neighbor's yard went from dead dirt to full shade in 2 summers and now I'm confused about what fixes actually matter
So my next door neighbor in Phoenix started planting mesquite and palo verde trees back in 2022, and the difference now is nuts, his back patio dropped maybe 15 degrees on a hot afternoon while mine still bakes. He says he barely waters them after the first year, just lets them do their thing. But my cousin in Tucson did the same thing on a smaller lot and half his trees died by summer 2, so I don't know if it's the soil, the timing, or just luck. Is desert shade worth the years of waiting, or should people like me just put up a shade sail and call it a day?
