My neighbor said to skip the fancy LED bulbs and just seal my drafty windows first, and my January bill dropped $38
I thought he was just being cheap about the $90 I was about to spend at the hardware store in Boise, but caulking and weatherstripping actually did more than swapping every bulb in the house, so now I'm wondering what other cheap fixes I've been ignoring while chasing the shiny stuff.
Air sealing is the most boring thing in the world and it works better than anything. Pull your outlet covers off on outside walls and feel for cold air, that one surprised me. Cheap foam gaskets behind the plates took me ten minutes and did more than the bulbs ever did.
