Installing solar panels took me 6 months longer than I planned

I decided to put solar panels on my house in Austin back in January. Between waiting for the permit from the city, finding an installer who actually showed up, and dealing with HOA paperwork, it took until July to get them turned on. The whole process was supposed to take 8 weeks according to the first company I talked to. Has anyone else run into crazy delays getting solar or other green upgrades done in your area?

Honestly, I'm going to push back on this a bit. You say it took 6 months, but that's actually pretty standard around here in my experience. I had a buddy in Round Rock who waited over a year for his permit to go through, and another guy I know in San Antonio had to deal with three different installers before one finished the job. The "8 weeks" thing sounds like a sales pitch, not reality, and honestly if you wanted it fast you probably should've just skipped the HOA step or picked a less busy installer.

Oh man, @lane.joel you bring up a good point about the HOA step. I've got to ask though, did your buddy in Round Rock try to push his HOA at all or did he just wait for them to get back to him? In my experience, some HOAs will drag their feet for months unless you're calling them every week. And honestly, skipping the HOA sounds risky unless you want a nasty letter later on. I'm just curious if he ever figured out what actually held things up the most, the permit or the installer.
