I started biking to my night shifts in Portland and my energy bill dropped $38
Didn't expect a 4 mile commute to change anything besides my gas spending, but the car just sat there plugged in less. Anyone else notice their home power use shift when they stopped driving so much?
I read somewhere that idling and short trips are way worse for gas use than people realize, so switching to a bike cuts more than just your driving costs. The other part is that your car's block heater or battery tender isn't pulling power all night either when it just sits there. My neighbor tracked hers and saw a similar dip, mostly from not running the engine to warm up in cold months. It adds up faster than you'd guess.
