I skipped the solar panel lease and just bought a used EV instead
Everyone in my neighborhood was pushing these 20-year solar leases, but the contract looked risky so I spent $14k on a 2018 Nissan Leaf. My electric bill is way down and I own the car outright, but my friends think I missed the bigger climate win. Has anyone else gone against the grain on a green upgrade like this?

People forget that making a used EV last another ten years is its own green win... it keeps all that manufacturing waste out of the landfill. Your choice probably saved more raw materials than a new solar setup would have. That's a quiet kind of impact that really adds up.

Honestly, the way people talk about this stuff you'd think you set a forest on fire. You got a used EV, that's still a solid move. Those solar leases are a huge commitment and not for everyone. You lowered your own bills and didn't get locked into some weird contract, that's a win in my book. The climate police in your friend group need to chill.

Wait wait wait. 14 grand for a used Leaf? That seems really high unless it's the 40 kWh model or something. Please tell me you checked the battery health before buying because those early ones lose range real fast.
