I finally got a heat pump water heater installed last month

It cost about $2,200 with the install here in Boise. My electric bill dropped by $40 the first full month it was running. I was worried it would be loud, but it's really quiet. Has anyone else made this switch and seen savings?

Wait, is a $40 drop on your bill actually that big of a deal? That's only $480 a year, so it would take like four and a half years just to pay for the unit itself. I'm not sold on the hype. What about the extra cost to run it in the winter when it's pulling heat from your already cold basement? Seems like the savings might not be as good as they say.

Mine paid for itself in under three years, honestly.
