Hit 500 pounds of food waste diverted in 3 months from my kitchen alone

I started weighing my food scraps back in January just out of curiosity. First week I was tossing like 4 pounds of veggie peels, eggshells, and coffee grounds. Then I got a countertop compost bin and started tracking it officially. Last week I hit 512 pounds total going to a local community compost drop off instead of the landfill. Has anyone else tried tracking their own waste and seen a number that surprised them?

Wait did you really weigh every bit of it? That's wild, I never even thought to track it that closely. I used to just toss everything in the trash without a second thought, honestly thought composting was kinda pointless for just one person. But seeing the actual number like 512 pounds really puts it into perspective. It's not just me either, I started doing it a couple months back and was shocked how fast it adds up. Kinda makes me feel like I'm actually doing something useful instead of just pretending to care.

Funny enough the real game changer for me wasn't even the weight itself but the fact that my trash can basically stopped smelling. Once you keep all that wet food waste out of there the whole kitchen just feels cleaner. Actually makes me wonder how much of the garbage truck emissions come from hauling around all that extra water weight from food scraps. Like we're literally paying to transport water to a landfill.
