The tape trick I started doing on Sundays in my Omaha kitchen

About 3 weeks ago I started slapping a strip of painter's tape on each shelf with the date I opened stuff written on it, and it's wild how fast I quit guessing whether that jar of salsa from the back was still okay, so has anyone found a better way to mark leftovers than tape and a Sharpie?
