PSA: Found a full unopened bag of salad in my crisper that went bad 3 weeks ago
I was cleaning out my fridge last Saturday morning because my wife kept complaining about a smell every time she opened the door. I pulled out the crisper drawer and found a bag of spring mix I bought at Kroger on March 8th for $4.99, still sealed, just sitting there behind a jar of pickles. The date on it was March 15th, so it had been dead for almost three weeks and I never even noticed because I kept buying new salad every week. I sat there on the kitchen floor kinda mad at myself, then I grabbed a sharpie and started writing the date I open stuff right on the bag or the lid. That one small move has saved me probably $20 a month because now I actually see what's about to go bad instead of just shoving new stuff in front. I also moved the crisper drawer to eye level by rearranging the shelves so I can't forget what's in there. Anyone else have a spot in their fridge where food goes to die, and did moving stuff around actually fix it for you?
